Many people have questioned my career choice:  You came from a big city in China and went to prestigious universities. Why would you choose to be a teacher in such a small city, even without a big Chinese community? My answer is: To do one thing well is hard enough. Every day, the model of self-contained, multiple-subject classrooms in the elementary schools here makes me think about the difference between the two educational systems. Through the communication with families of various backgrounds, I learned their culture and found what is common in human nature. Students in my class not only learn Chinese but are also immersed in an international culture, which will benefit them for life. In addition to doing my job, I have advanced to leadership roles and advocated for people of color. Outside of working time, I have shared my experience in order to guide international students to find their path, created free courses to help professionals improve their communication skills, and answered questions from parents about their kids’ growth. The things I do might seem trivial, but as long as I am helping more people I feel that what I am doing is meaningful. This is my life in America. 

很多人曾经质疑过我的职业选择：你来自中国的大城市，本科研究生都是名校毕业，为何来到湾区一个华人并不多的城市“支教”？难道你一辈子就只想当一个小学老师？教一群五颜六色的娃娃？我想说：人这一辈子能做好一件事，就已经很不容易了。美国小学的全科教育模式，让从小在中国公立学校长大的我每天都在思考两种教育体系的利弊。与各个族裔家庭的交流，让我了解了多种不同的文化，更从中找到人性的相通之处。在我的课堂，孩子们不仅学会了中文，还耳濡目染世界文化，这将会让他们受益终身。在学校里，我不仅做好本职工作，更积极进军领导岗位，帮助少数族裔争取更多话语权。在工作之余，我不吝惜分享自己的经验，指引更多的中国留学生找到适合自己的道路、开办免费课程帮职场人士打磨英语交流能力、回答华人父母关于孩子成长的问题。我做的或许平凡，但只要我能帮助到更多的人，我就觉得我所做的是有意义的。
