Xinye Lin
Multisensory Artist / Entrepreneur, Mountain View
My artistic journey began at the age of five, when I started learning the Chinese instrument Guzheng. Years of training in traditional Chinese music shaped my deep sensitivity to sound. Later, I completed a Master's degree in Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and then went on an exchange program to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts to study furniture design. These experiences provided me with a strong foundation in spatial thinking and digital creation.
Beyond academia, travel has greatly influenced my artistic perspective. What fascinates me most about traveling is the feeling of being immersed in different cultures—where, despite language barriers, there’s often a sense of shared resonance and connection. I came to realize that colors, melodies, and even scents can transcend language and culture, speaking directly to the heart. This "sensory resonance" became the foundation of my multisensory art practice.
I began creating works that engage not just sight and sound, but also touch and smell, aiming to evoke deep emotional connections across cultural boundaries. Works like Kaleidoscope, exhibited at Times Square in New York, Dream Butterfly at the Florida Electronic Arts Festival, and my solo exhibition Floating Dream in San Francisco, all emerged from this exploration.
Now based in Silicon Valley, I’ve founded Xinye Lin LLC, a design brand where I extend my artistic vision into products, blending art into everyday life. This June, during San Francisco Design Week, I will launch my first product based on this concept: a multisensory balm that combines scent, touch, and vision—both a functional daily item and a work of art to be experienced.
Through my work, I hope to create unique artistic experiences that also serve as tools for emotional healing. I believe that art is not only a form of expression but also a powerful means of healing.
