About Anna Chi

Anna Chi was born and raised in China. As a young girl, she was a zealous Red Guard, as a young woman, an accomplished film editor and producer with a literature degree. But in China, the Communist Party won’t let her tell the stories she wanted to tell. So Ms. Chi took a leap of faith and came to Los Angeles, where she attended UCLA film school and graduated with an MFA in directing. She’s gone on to helm award-winning independent films including Blindness, Dim Sum Funeral, Cicada Summer (Mandarin), Surprise Island (Animated) and Swimming (Short). Ms. Chi won the Best Achievement in Directing award from Universe Multicultural Film Festival for her latest feature, The Disappearance of Mrs. Wu, which will be released by FreeStyle in March 2023. Anna is passionate about telling stories about the Asian American experience. She believes that films can be a powerful tool for representation and change. She is committed to using her platform to create films that will inspire and entertain audiences around the world.
