Software Engineer / Event Organizer, Santa Clara

From a young age, I favored liberal arts over math and science, with a deep love for reading history, literature, and traditional Chinese culture. However, with the rise of the mobile internet, my life took a turn in college when I switched to studying computer science, eventually making my way to Silicon Valley to become a software engineer. Transitioning from a literary youth to a geek and a member of the entrepreneurial community, my thinking and interests expanded. Yet, the general education I accumulated over the years from college, books and podcasts still profoundly influences my way of thinking, values, and attention to social issues. During the pandemic, residents of Silicon Valley organized several rallies against anti-Asian hate. I had never participated in such gatherings and was initially worried about the pandemic and hate violence but ultimately mustered the courage to go and see for myself. As the taxi I was in turned the last corner, the San Jose City Hall came into view, and I was instantly shocked with emotion: I had not expected to see so many people, all holding signs and refusing to remain silent. I met a Chinese auntie who advised us, "It's up to your younger generation to speak out." Watching them, the tune of Beyond's "Glorious Years" echoed in my mind. While working at Google, the Chinese community at the company hosted many events. I was fortunate to participate in, and organize some of my favorite activities, such as innovation and humanities events, sometimes attracting hundreds of attendees. Through these, I gradually found a sense of belonging and achievement. Now, I have created an event info channel on WeChat named "Bay Area Innovation Event Collection." Initially, it was just a small attempt to share information with friends, but unexpectedly, it has grown into a platform with widespread positive feedback and influence. Seeing how my interests and strengths for organizing events bring value to others, I have also found more self-fulfillment. In the future, I hope to continue providing high-quality content and inspiration to everyone.
