Jing Ren
Entrepreneur/ Professional Athlete, Mountain View
I was born in Heilongjiang Province in China, and grew up with a natural passion and talent for sports. Spotted early by coaches, I trained professionally—from martial arts to sports school—and joined China’s national team in 2017 as a long jumper.
Those years were intense and disciplined, but also repetitive. Day after day of training pushed my limits, but also made me question: Is this all there is to my life? Deep down, I longed for a bigger world beyond the track.
That chance came when I met Randy Huntington, a U.S. coach working with the national team. More than a coach, he was a mentor who encouraged me to pursue life beyond athletics. With his support, I applied to Tulane University and received a full scholarship—my first step from the field to the classroom.
The journey wasn’t easy. Language barriers, a demanding academic load, a torn Achilles during an NCAA competition, and the pandemic all tested me. But years of athletic training had shaped my resilience. That same grit carried me through the toughest moments and into a new chapter of life.
Now based in Silicon Valley, I’ve become an entrepreneur in the sports industry, channeling years of experience and passion into helping students pursue their athletic dreams. It’s a new chapter of exploration in my journey.
Looking back, I know it was those bold choices that shaped who I am today. And looking forward, the future still feels like a starting line—full of possibility.
